La berline aux anneaux tente de faire cohabiter ses ambitions autoroutières avec une chaîne de traction hybride rechargeable à vocation plus urbaine par nature. L’Audi A6 55 TFSI e cultive l’esprit de contradiction. Sous une robe élégante de grande routière, elle dissimule une motorisation qui, en général, prouve sa pertinence en ville et/ou à sa périphérie. Synonyme d’une capacité de batterie modeste et pour autant d’un surpoids non négligeable, l’hybride rechargeable préfère souvent les petits trajets et les recharges régulières aux longs périples autoroutiers avalés d’une traite. Par certains aspects, cette A6 électrifiée respecte l’adage. Sa “pile” de 17,9 kWh 14,4 kWh utiles, qui empiète largement sur un coffre par conséquent ridicule pour la catégorie, ne permet de parcourir qu’une petite quarantaine de kilomètres sans brûler de sans-plomb. Et encore faut-il réussir à en faire le “plein”. A défaut de pouvoir ajuster l’ampérage de charge, comme le proposent la plupart des BMW ainsi motorisées par exemple, cette Audi s’avère quelque peu allergique au courant domestique de faible puissance et refuse d’en remplir son pack lithium-ion le cas échéant. Les mieux lotis en matière d’installation électrique loueront en revanche le fait que le système admet à l’inverse jusqu’à 7,3 kW et abrège la recharge complète en trois petites heures. Une chose est sûre, pas question de régénérer la batterie en roulant. Au mieux, un mode de conduite “Hold” permet d’en maintenir la charge. Cette version, qui combine une machine synchrone et un 4-cylindres turbo essence par le biais d’une boîte robotisée à 7 rapports, fait donc logiquement craindre une consommation déraisonnable dès lors que le parcours s’étire en longueur. Mais dans les faits, pas forcément. Malgré nos près de 550 km d’essai, dont près de 400 sur l’autoroute A11, et seulement un court arrêt à la borne à mi-distance, l’ordinateur de bord ne s’est jamais affolé. Les 8,4 l/km relevés restent acceptables au regard des 367 ch cumulés et surtout de notre faible inclination pour l’éco-conduite. Ceci dit, l’A6 y sensibilise habilement. Son mode roue libre intelligent, qui favorise plus ou moins la récupération d’énergie au gré du trafic qui précède, encourage à jouer le jeu. Certes, l’effet de frein moteur est marqué, mais avec le temps, facile à anticiper et donc à lisser. Au pire, que les plus irréductibles se rassurent, le système est débrayable. Impossible également d’ignorer les signaux envoyer par la pédale d’accélérateur. Capable de générer un point dur pour éviter le réveil fortuit du bloc thermique en mode hybride lors des relances, elle encourage aussi à lever le pied par de subtiles impulsions à l’approche d’un abaissement de la limitation de vitesse ou en fonction des données de navigation ronds-points, virages, descentes…. C’est donc sans la culpabilité d’engloutir des hectolitres de carburant fossile que cette berline aux anneaux se laisse mener sans effort et confortablement, l’amortissement piloté optionnel nous paraissant particulièrement indiqué pour sublimer ses talents de voyageuse. Mais pas de sprinteuse. Performante et sûre, cette puissante intégrale accorde avant tout la bonne éducation de sa mécanique à la sagesse de son châssis. Comme quoi, cette A6 n’est pas faite que de contradictions. Notre verdict Cette A6 55 TFSI e n’est pas un miracle de vertu. Mais sa consommation maîtrisée prouve que ce n’est pas un non-sens pour autant.
